SOME ASPECTS OF THE POSITIVE CONTRIBUTIONS OF BOTANICALS AND MICROBIALS TO INTENSIVE HORTICULTURE

Nicholas Stutterheim PhD, Koppert Biological Systems

Measures to prevent soil diseases represent significant costs to growers. As well as financial costs, the hidden costs of microbial disturbance of the rooting environment can result in reduced performance of following crops and increased disease risk. The interaction between physical, chemical and biological processes in the soil and plants is examined to show how disease resistance and improved yields can result from an innovative approach to managing the soil environment.
