Held at the Whaplode Manor Hotel at 7.30 pm on 18 February 2013

NVZs and SEAWEED

Andy Eccles, Agronomist, Omex Agriculture

As more holdings find themselves in a Nitrate Vulnerable Zone, it becomes the responsibility of farmers and growers to ensure that groundwater sources are protected from excessive nitrate leaching.

Andy Eccles will show how nitrification inhibitors added to fertilisers act to slow the conversion of non-mobile ammonium compounds to leachable nitrates and the potent greenhouse gas nitrous oxide. This has implications for increased yield and lowered fertiliser costs.

Bio-stimulants are an increasingly important means of promoting plant growth. Seaweed extract in various forms has long been known to produce real benefits. Andy will give more up to date results on field-scale use of these compounds.
