VISIT TO STAPLES VEGETABLES LTD BIOGAS PLANT

Currently the largest single Brassica production unit in Britain, Staples Vegetables Ltd farms in excess of 10,000 acres. The land is spread across the best production areas of the UK.

The production system is uniquely integrated, as is illustrated by their energy policy. Out-of-specification vegetable product together with purpose-grown energy crops are used as the input for a 1.4 MW biogas plant. This enables the company to be 100% self-sufficient in electrical energy for heating, lighting and refrigeration. The spent feedstock from the digester is then used as fertiliser.

Meet at Marsh Farm, Sea Lane, Wrangle, Boston PE22 9HE.

Please assemble near the office for a prompt start at 5:00pm. There will be a showing of a DVD video in the office first, which lasts about 8mins, and puts the biogas plant into context. There will then be a guided tour of the digester and generator plant, lasting about 1hr.

Note: There is a limit of 20 persons max on this visit, owing to H&S restrictions. Arrangements for booking places will be notified on this page. Check back later for details.
